Bivouac at Druid’s Temple

Rustic holiday site, restaurant & activity centre. A market leader in the luxury camping / glamping sector.
2010 - 2013
Co-founder, Managing Director
Bivouac at Druid’s Temple is a rustic-luxury holiday retreat nestled in the rural North Yorkshire Dales. Developed by Sam and his wife Beth, in collaboration with our friends at Box-head.

The Bivouac was designed to foster deep connections between guests, nature, and community through thoughtful planning, sustainable design, and warm hospitality.

Sam led the full development cycle: selecting the site, securing planning permission, raising investment, crafting the brand, and overseeing construction and operations of the £850k facility. The site includes hand-crafted accommodation, a converted barn café, shop, and luxury amenities, and offers 94 bed spaces.

The project earned national media praise and multiple awards, including Welcome to Yorkshire’s Best Holiday Site. After 18 successful months of holidays and events, management transitioned to the Swinton Estate, with operations rebranded under their stewardship.

This was Sam’s first major project and it set a foundation of commitment to place-making, sustainability, and creating memorable visitor experiences.

Native Architects were fortunate to be part of the design team that helped deliver Sam and Beth Hardwick's vision for the Bivouac at Masham. The host of awards are testimony to their success in leading that team and creating a truly sustainable visitor experience. As managers they inspired great loyalty and devotion in their team and this was evident in the uplifting atmosphere and sense of place that their vision created.
