The aim was to reduce the cost of living so residents could dedicate more time to meaningful, impact-led work.
Designed as a mutually supportive, creative community, Twigloo encouraged the sharing of time, skills, ideas, cars, and childcare. Plans included communal workspaces, workshops, and meeting areas, alongside public-facing leisure spaces such as a community café, arts centre, and playground.
Developed as a not-for-profit, ethical venture rooted in mutuality and shared ownership, the project progressed to securing a rural site in North Yorkshire, gaining positive planning pre-application feedback, and raising £300k in seed investment.
The Yorkshire site was sadly aborted, and although paused, the Twigloo vision lives on and is likely to be reborn in a future project.
